It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Engineer Abdolhamid Noghrehkar, who departed this life on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 (8 Ordibehesht 1405), at the age of 83, after a period of struggle with cancer. His loss is irreparable for the country’s scholarly and academic community. We extend our sincere condolences to all members of the academic community and pray for the elevation of his spiritual rank and his companionship with the righteous friends of God. May his soul rest in peace and be embraced by Divine mercy.
Engineer Abdolhamid Noghrehkar, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Iranian Academy of Arts, served for forty‑five years as a professor at Iran University of Science and Technology. Through a meaning‑oriented and value‑based perspective on architecture and urban planning, he developed a distinctive and innovative approach within his field of expertise. He was the author of hundreds of scholarly, cultural, and artistic books and articles in the field of Iranian‑Islamic philosophy of art, and was recognized as an exemplary researcher who received prestigious national awards such as the Farabi Award and the Sheikh Baha’i Award.
He also served as the head of the Theory‑Building Chair in Architecture and Urban Planning, the director of the Research Center and Scientific Hub for Islamic Architecture, and the chair of the Architecture and Urban Planning Working Group of the Supreme Council for the Transformation and Advancement of the Humanities.
Professor Noghrehkar was also among the pioneers of the Islamic Revolution. His professional record includes positions such as Deputy to Martyr Mohammad‑Ali Rajai in the Ministry of Education, President of the Islamic Association of Teachers of Iran, National Director of Selection Affairs, Director of Public Relations for the Headquarters for the Reception of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Basij of University Professors, and numerous other cultural, artistic, and academic responsibilities.
