What is commonly referred to as the age of globalization encompasses profound transformations in epistemological and aesthetic domains as well. In this context, culture and art are no longer examined merely as local structures. This development may initially appear free of challenges, indigenous and traditional arts may become detached from their spiritual sources or gradually abandon their inherited artistic forms under the influence of globally disseminated decorative elements. Islamic art should be examined not merely as the product of individual creativity, but as the manifestation of sacred wisdom and a spiritual order embodied in the sensible world, whose origins are rooted in Islamic philosophy and metaphysics. This purposeful harmony between form and meaning, reason and imagination, as well as beauty and truth, has characterized the artistic tradition of Islam for centuries and continues into the present day. Suhrawardi’s Illuminationist philosophy, grounded in concepts such as light, the imaginal realm, and intuitive knowledge, constitutes one of the principal foundations of this aesthetic tradition. Furthermore, imagination, as a mediating faculty that enables access to higher levels of existence, and sacred geometry, as the symbolic language of the spirit and the formal manifestation of cosmic order in human craftsmanship, have played essential roles in the formation and development of this artistic tradition and aesthetic outlook. This study seeks to examine the theoretical foundations for the revitalization of Islamic art in response to the needs and modes of understanding of contemporary global audiences by drawing upon the concepts of cosmic order, numerical proportions, and sacred geometry in the thought of the Ikhwan al-Safa; light, intuition, and active imagination in Suhrawardi’s philosophy; and the doctrines of the Unity of Being and creative imagination in the thought of Ibn Arabi. To achieve this objective, the present study addresses the following questions: How can Islamic art be reinterpreted and recreated in the age of globalization without severing its connection to its epistemological and metaphysical foundations? What roles do light, intuition, the Unity of Being, and creative imagination play in the reinterpretation of meaning within Islamic art? What significance do sacred geometry and numerical proportions hold in the recreation of artistic forms and visual expressions in the age of globalization? This article seeks to establish a meaningful connection between the past and future of the Islamic artistic tradition, between tradition and innovation in the creation of Islamic artistic forms, and between Islamic artworks and audiences emerging from cultural and civilizational contexts different from that of Islam. Such a connection underscores the necessity of revisiting the philosophical foundations of Islamic art and reimagining its visual elements within the context of globalization and intercultural exchange. This research is fundamental in terms of its objective and qualitative in nature. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the study relies on library-based sources for data collection. The analysis of the collected data demonstrates that the philosophical and metaphysical foundations of Islamic art can provide an appropriate framework for the creation of artistic works capable of engaging audiences in the age of globalization while preserving their cultural identity.
